David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker to Take Turns to Star in Play
The inaugural production will feature a rotating cast of stars and no rehearsal, with more than 4,000 performances since the play’s 2011 debut.
- On Friday, Iranian-German playwright Nassim Soleimanpour and director Omar Elerian launched There & Then, an independent theatre company whose inaugural production brings White Rabbit Red Rabbit to London's West End Duchess Theatre for weekly Monday performances starting June 8.
- Soleimanpour wrote the play while forbidden from leaving Iran, creating a format described as a "singular, unrepeatable experience shaped entirely by how that performer embraces the unknown" requiring cold performances with no rehearsal or director.
- The play has clocked over 4,000 stagings across more than 25 languages since 2011, with initial casting featuring David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, and Riz Ahmed, with further casting announced in coming weeks.
- In association with producer Nica Burns and Nimax Theatre Group, the production establishes the company's West End presence at the intimate Duchess Theatre, with Burns expressing delight at welcoming the artists to their first Monday residency.
- The company is also touring Echo with producer Immanuel Bartz, as executive producer Roz Coleman notes the work "opens a door to something much bigger" amid plans to collaborate with artists across different career stages internationally.
