David Eby visits Lantzville; says he will work to bring water to the community
Eby said his party would work with regional and federal partners after a 2024 referendum failed to connect the area to municipal water mains.
On October 5, NDP leader David Eby visited Huddlestone Park and pledged to work with regional and federal partners to ensure clean drinking water access for all Lantzville residents.
Currently, the Winds area remains unserved by Lantzville water mains, forcing families to rely on private wells or bottled water for their drinking needs.
A referendum in September 2024 failed when 69 per cent of residents rejected a plan requiring a $5.7 million grant and $3.6 million in local taxes.
Natasha Friesen, a long-time advocate, displayed a 2013 Nanaimo Daily News article to Eby and George Anderson, underscoring a decade-long struggle for water access.
Nanaimo-Lantzville NDP candidate George Anderson conditioned his candidacy on the party resolving the water crisis, citing the divide between residents with and without safe water.
