Date set for re-opening of fire ravaged Union Street four months after blaze
Glasgow Central Station and Union Street will fully reopen on Friday, July 17, following extensive stabilization efforts after a fire destroyed the Union Corner building earlier this year.
The fire began in a vape shop on Sunday, March 8, destroying the B-listed Victorian building and forcing closure of station entrances while crews stabilized the site.
Network Rail Scotland confirmed the full station concourse reopens Monday, July 13, with Liam Sumpter, managing director at Network Rail Scotland, calling the restoration a "significant milestone."
Councillor Angus Millar, convener for city centre recovery at Glasgow City Council, confirmed the reopening allows "people and vehicles to move far more smoothly" through the area.
Ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on July 23, architectural firm O'Donnell Brown will develop a "meanwhile use" for the cleared site over approximately four years.
