ALBERTA, CANADA, JUL 7 – Ontario and Alberta premiers signed memorandums of understanding to advance pipelines, rail lines, and trade infrastructure, aiming to overcome $200 billion in annual internal trade barriers.
- Under the MOUs signed, rail lines built using Ontario steel would connect Ontario's Ring of Fire region, critical mineral mining projects, and processing facilities to western Canadian ports.
- Ontario and Alberta intend to launch a joint feasibility study to help determine the optimal route and endpoints for new economic and energy corridors, financing tools, and leveraging home-grown supply chains.
- Mr. Ford said the agreements would help secure Canada's economic future and protect Canadian workers from tariffs and economic uncertainty by building infrastructure to get resources to new markets.
