San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie Says Progressive Policies Hurt Public Safety and Drug Crisis Response
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said the city had lost focus by emphasizing progressive values while overlooking public safety and effective governance.
Lurie identified public safety, mental health and drug crises, and basic city services or governance as top priorities.
Lurie cited 810 overdose deaths and 30,000 car break-ins in San Francisco three years earlier, adding that break-ins had since fallen 90%.
Lurie said supporting immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community was consistent with progressive values, but public drug use and repeated crimes against small businesses were not.
