Daniel Kinahan: Alleged Irish crime boss will 'vehemently defend' himself in court and apply for bail
His solicitor said he will seek bail through the High Court while defense lawyers press for expert review of digital evidence and disclosure in two investigations.
On Monday, October 12, 2026, Daniel Kinahan appeared at Dublin's Special Criminal Court facing a single charge of directing a criminal organization between October 18, 2015, and April 6, 2017. Judges remanded him in custody until December 21.
Following his August extradition from the United Arab Emirates, Kinahan is detained at Portlaoise Prison. Solicitor Darragh Mackin of Belfast-based Phoenix Law confirmed he will apply for bail through the High Court in the coming weeks.
Prosecution barrister Dominic McGinn SC cited a "complex factual matrix" behind the charge, noting a 189-page statement of fact supporting the extradition. Judges granted an adjournment until December 21 for prosecutors to prepare the book of evidence.
Mackin stated the defense requires time to seek expert examination of digital evidence and is requesting disclosure of information regarding two separate investigations in Spain and Dubai where he said Kinahan was "acquitted."
International attention surrounds the case due to Kinahan's alleged links to a major organized crime network. U.S. authorities previously sanctioned the group, offering rewards of up to $5 million for information leading to conviction of key members.
