The ambitions are high – the hope is to have 1.5 million users in just a few months – but owner Mediahuis is also showing realism: "If we have to conclude in two years that this doesn't work, then so be it. At least we will have tried."

The Hyves, which can be described as a Dutch version of Facebook, is making a comeback 22 years after it was founded. According to the owner, Mediahuis, there is demand for social media with “fewer intrusive ads, no addictive algorithms, and no endless scrolls.”
