Patel to be replaced by Tugendhat as shadow foreign secretary: BBC
Dame Priti Patel will take on an international role as Tom Tugendhat is expected to replace her in the Conservative frontbench reshuffle.
Senior Conservative Dame Priti Patel is leaving her post as shadow foreign secretary as part of a Tory reshuffle, with Tom Tugendhat expected to replace her, BBC News reported.
In a statement on Sunday, Dame Priti said returning to the back benches would give her 'greater freedom to stand up' for her Witham and Essex constituency while taking on an international role.
Tugendhat, a former British Army reserve officer, served as security minister under Liz Truss and Boris Johnson and spent five years as chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee.
This reshuffle follows Sir James Cleverly's resignation as shadow housing secretary to campaign for London mayor, leaving Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch with multiple vacancies to fill.
Further changes are expected in the coming weeks due to shadow energy secretary Claire Coutinho's upcoming maternity leave, while speculation persists about shadow chancellor Sir Mel Stride's future.
