Dallas the dog who was rescued by a drone is now on the mend, says canine rescue
Thermal drones located Dallas the dog after three days trapped with a cheese ball jar on her head; she is now recovering from dehydration and tick-borne diseases, rescue officials said.
- On Wednesday morning, thermal drone pilot Dallas Fuhrman located Dallas the dog in a Dillsburg corn field, and rescuers transported her to Shores Veterinary Emergency Center for care.
- After being spotted on Monday in Dillsburg, CRCPA volunteers said the dog likely rummaged through trash and got a Cheddar cheese ball jar stuck near her collarbone; Janelle George said, `And the way that the jar is set up, it got stuck around her collarbone area.`
- Medical teams found severe dehydration and tick infestation, and an Aug. 22, 2025 check-up at Shores Veterinary Emergency Center confirmed Lyme disease and anaplasmosis; Hanover Foods is covering veterinary expenses.
- Canine Rescue of Central Pennsylvania said Dallas's immediate recovery focuses on hydration, rest, and gradual weight gain during the next few weeks in foster care, and donations via the CRCPA Facebook page support her medical needs.
- The rescue underscores how drones and volunteers can extend search efforts, as volunteers and thermal drone teams located the dog after multiple days, highlighting technology's role and prompting community action against plastic litter and jars.
