Man Charged with Killing 19-Year-Old Woman Reported Missing in Prince George’s County
Hugo Hernandez-Mendez, 35, was charged after evidence showed Thompson was killed in his Bowie home; authorities continue investigating their relationship and motive.
- On Friday, Prince George's County police announced that Hugo Hernandez-Mendez, 35, of Bowie, was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of DaCara Thompson, 19, of Lanham.
- Thompson disappeared on Aug. 22, was reported missing on Aug. 23, and surveillance footage shows her entering a black SUV early that day; Maryland State Police found her body off Route 50 on Aug. 31.
- Surveillance and physical evidence linked the SUV and the Bowie home to the investigation, with police finding signs on September 4 indicating Thompson was killed in a bedroom where Hernandez-Mendez lived; Nader said, `We believe everything transpired in the bedroom`.
- On Thursday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a detainer for Hugo Hernandez-Mendez, who is held without bond by the Department of Corrections while Tara Jackson, Prince George's County State's Attorney, reviews evidence for possible indictment.
- County leaders said DaCara Thompson, 19, served through Maryland Service Year Option and Nonprofit Prince George's County; Aisha Braveboy said, `It is tough that we are at this point, where the search is over and justice begins`.
