The new procedure is a milestone in the treatment of acute pulmonary embolism. It takes barely 20 minutes, only a fifth of the drug dose is needed, and the clot dissolves directly in the lungs! It has already helped the first patients, such as Zuzana Vorlová.
Czech doctors have presented the results of the largest randomized trial of its kind to date focused on the interventional treatment of acute pulmonary embolism. Patients who underwent catheter-based local thrombolysis in addition to conventional medications had a significantly reduced risk of serious complications within the first week.
