Czech Republic Firefighters Help with Search and Rescue Efforts After Hill Country Floods
KERR COUNTY, TEXAS, JUL 20 – A 16-member Czech team aided Texas flood recovery using drones and rescue dogs after at least 135 deaths, working alongside local and national responders in Kerr County.
- This past week, the Czech Republic Urban Search and Rescue Unit arrived in Kerr County, including rescue dogs and specialists, brought through an agreement between the Czech Embassy in Washington and the Texas National Guard.
- Following torrential downpours over July 4th weekend, floods in Kerr County, Texas, caused at least 135 deaths and three people remain missing.
- Operating alongside the Texas National Guard, Jaroslav Piesch said `All of us are firefighters` in Boerne and Kerrville.
- Amid ongoing recovery efforts, Rice toured the Emergency Operations Center with Jan Havránek, thanking the Czech team for their assistance.
- As work continues, Jan Vanicek said earlier this month, `The mutual relations that have been enjoyed by the Czech Republic and the United States of America are unparalleled in modern history`.
