The popular holiday island of Cyprus is hit by a strong heat wave. Because of the high power consumption by air conditioning, there are power failures.
Yesterday, the meteorological station in the village of Livkara, located about 20 kilometres from the coast, recorded a 46.1 degree higher reading, according to R.I.K. The Cyprus Meteorological Commission issued a warning of extremely high temperatures for both the interior and the upper mountain areas. Weather conditions along the coast can be further sustained by sea-dishes, with temperatures expected to reach about 38 degrees.
People in Cyprus are currently suffering from extreme temperatures of over 46 degrees.
