Proofpoint to Acquire Hornetsecurity for over $1 Billion
- Cybersecurity firm Proofpoint announced its acquisition of German company Hornetsecurity for over $1 billion in 2025.
- Proofpoint, owned by Thoma Bravo since 2021, aims to expand in Europe and enter the small and medium business market via Hornetsecurity's MSP network.
- Hornetsecurity specializes in Microsoft 365 security solutions, serving over 125,000 small and mid-sized businesses and 12,000 managed service providers, with annual recurring revenue reaching $160 million and a team of more than 700 employees.
- Proofpoint CEO Sumit Dhawan said Hornetsecurity "brings very strong business," diversifies routes to market, and will contribute significantly to earnings and cash flow.
- The deal, expected to close in late 2025, supports Proofpoint's goal to strengthen offerings for MSPs and SMBs while preparing for a future return to public markets.
