Cy Xayarath Launches “Be Present” Pledge to Support Better Patient Communication and Respect for Healthcare Workers
The pledge offers seven daily commitments and a free toolkit to improve communication, with more than 45% of nurses reporting emotional exhaustion, survey data show.
Omaha, Nebraska, registered nurse Cy Xayarath announced the Be Present Pledge on Thursday, an initiative focused on improving communication, patience, and respect within healthcare environments.
A 2024 survey reported more than 45% of nurses experience emotional exhaustion, while communication-related problems remain a leading contributor to preventable medical errors in the United States.
The initiative offers a free toolkit and 30-day tracker to help individuals make small personal commitments that reduce stress and improve everyday healthcare interactions.
Inspired by his patient care work at CHI Health and his service in the United States Army, Xayarath believes these small actions improve interactions for everyone involved.
Consistency in small, respectful interactions can foster trust and better outcomes across the nation's more than 3 million registered nurses, Xayarath suggests.
