In an appeal this week, a judge in Curaçao ruled that there is no legal basis for detaining people solely for having arrived illegally in Curaçao. On December 27, 2023, a boat carrying Venezuelans who had entered Curaçao illegally was intercepted. This prompted the Minister of Justice to order their detention.
