Croc hunter walks from jail hours after birth of son
He will continue his appeal after serving five months for trying to pervert the course of justice in a fatal helicopter crash case.
On Monday, celebrity crocodile wrangler Matt Wright was released from Darwin Correctional Centre after serving five months of a 10-month sentence for perverting the course of justice.
Wright's legal troubles stemmed from attempts to obstruct investigations into a 2022 helicopter crash in Arnhem Land that killed his co-star Chris 'Willow' Wilson and severely injured pilot Sebastian Robinson.
Wright narrowly missed the birth of his son Sterling on Mother's Day, Sunday, after Corrections Commissioner Matthew Varley denied his application for a seven-day early release on compassionate grounds.
Following his release, Wright posted to Instagram: "Finally home with my family after one hell of a fight," praising his wife Kaia Wright's efforts during the birth.
Wright remains committed to his legal challenge, stating he will "continue to fight to clear his name" as his legal team progresses the appeal against the convictions filed last year.
