No French diplomats have been stationed in Burkina Faso since last week, and Burkinabe diplomats in France had until Monday evening to leave. This is a further step in the cooling of relations between Paris and Ouagadougou, following the announcement on June 26 of the unilateral decision by Burkinabe authorities to sever diplomatic ties with France.
Burkina Faso's diplomatic staff must leave France by Monday evening. This measure comes a week after the Burkinabe authorities unilaterally decided to sever diplomatic relations with Paris. Paris has also announced the return to France of all its diplomats from Burkina Faso.
France announced the withdrawal of all its diplomats in Burkina Faso following the break-up of relations decided by the Burundian military junta at the end of June.
On 26 June, Ouagadougou announced that it would break diplomatic relations with Paris. Since the diplomatic staff were repatriated, it is this evening that the last French diplomats will leave Burkina Faso.
