German carmaker Volkswagen has approved a total of 100,000 job cuts by 2030 to combat competition from Chinese competitors and rising cost pressures. The company will stop production in some of its factories between 2031-2034, halving the number of models and launching a transformation program with an investment of 'three digit billion euros'.
The Volkswagen Supervisory Board unanimously approved the toughest restructuring plan in the history of the concentrate, wrote Bild. Four factories could be shut down, the number of models would be halved, and the production of internal combustion engines would probably stop.
