NYC Shootings Drop to Record Lows but Transit Crime Climbs

NYPD credits targeted policing for historic lows in citywide shootings and murders despite an 18.5% rise in subway crimes driven by assaults and thefts.

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The NYPD reported that January and February saw the fewest shootings and murders ever recorded for the first two months of a year, even as crime in the city’s subway system increased.
