Explosions and fire tear through Ohio industrial building, 2 workers unaccounted for
Officials said at least two employees were unaccounted for as firefighters battled a large blaze after the blasts.
On Tuesday, two explosions rocked Brent Industries on South Avenue in Toledo, Ohio, shortly before 5 a.m., sparking a massive fire that drew emergency responders to the industrial recycling facility.
Founded in Alabama, Brent Industries operates textile reconditioning and industrial recycling services aimed at reducing waste. The facility sits on South Avenue, north of Airport Highway and west of Detroit Avenue.
Heavy smoke and flames poured from the structure as Toledo Fire and Rescue Department, Toledo Police, EMS, and Ohio State Highway Patrol officers arrived on scene. The fire department warned: "Please avoid the area and remain clear of the scene."
Fire Chief Allison Armstrong told WTOL that at least two employees remained unaccounted for following the explosions. Authorities have released no immediate information regarding deaths or injuries from the incident.
As emergency crews continue operations, officials urged the public to stay away from the area for safety. CBS News Detroit will provide additional details online and on air as they become available.
