CPI demands immediate resignation of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar over son’s POCSO case
The CPI said Bandi Sanjay Kumar should quit to protect the probe, as police face allegations of delay and political pressure in the case.
On Friday, police registered a POCSO Act case against Bandi Bhageerath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, following allegations of sexual harassment involving a 17-year-old girl in Telangana.
The complainant alleges Bhageerath sexually assaulted her at a Moinabad farmhouse, while Bhageerath filed a counter-complaint claiming the girl's family demanded Rs 5 crore and threatened suicide.
On Sunday, Communist Party of India leaders demanded Bandi Sanjay Kumar's resignation, while Bharat Rashtra Samithi activists besieged the Director General of Police's office in Hyderabad demanding immediate arrest of Bhageerath.
Dismissing the allegations as a 'political hit job,' Bandi Sanjay claimed the accusations aimed to malign him ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, though Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy questioned police on investigation delays.
The Telangana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights initiated suo motu action, while BRS leaders accused the BJP of hypocrisy over its 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign amid escalating political fallout.
