Ontario to Move Northwest Regions to Permanent Daylight Time
The change would align northwest Ontario with Manitoba after officials cited broad support from municipalities, First Nations and businesses.
On Tuesday, Ontario announced plans to move parts of the province's northwest region to permanent daylight time to align with Manitoba.
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew announced last month that his province would stop twice-annual clock changes and stay on daylight time year-round.
Regulatory changes to the Time Act on Nov. 1 will allow regions west of the 90th meridian to align with Manitoba, Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford said.
The province's alignment matches Manitoba and follows similar moves by Alberta and British Columbia to adopt permanent daylight time.
Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford noted that overwhelming consensus among municipalities, First Nations, and businesses supports the permanent time change.
