Canada’s Auger-Aliassime Withdraws as Top Seeds Exit Early at National Bank Open
The world No. 4 withdrew two hours before his opening match after a practice injury, ending his bid for Canada’s first men’s singles title since 1958.
On Wednesday, Felix Auger-Aliassime withdrew from the National Bank Open at IGA Stadium in Montreal due to a back injury sustained during training, just hours before his scheduled match.
Entering the ATP Masters 1000 as a favorite, Auger-Aliassime aimed to become the first Canadian man to win the singles title since Robert Bedard in 1958.
His departure leaves the draw without Canadian representation in men's singles after Denis Shapovalov and Gabriel Diallo retired with injuries on Tuesday.
French qualifier Titouan Droguet, who was scheduled to face the Canadian, advances to the third round to play American Brandon Nakashima.
Despite a solid 2026 season including a quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon, the Montreal native has struggled at his home event, failing to advance past the second round since 2023.
