- The EFCC alleged the multi-billion naira properties—luxury residential and commercial assets located across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano and Kaduna—were acquired from proceeds of unlawful activities, prompting an interim forfeiture order issued in early January by Judge Emeka Nwite.
- Prosecution lawyer Jibrin Okutepa presented a motion for final forfeiture in three volumes supported by 46 exhibits, while defence counsel Adedayo Adedeji countered with a 109-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Malami disputing the allegations.
- The court heard arguments from more than 12 respondents, including Malami's son and wife facing money laundering charges, over several hours as Justice Abdulmalik warned against delaying conduct and 16 defence motions sought to overturn the interim order.
- Judgment on July 6 will determine whether the interim forfeiture becomes permanent, as Malami's legal team maintains the properties were legitimately acquired and the EFCC's allegations rest on suspicion rather than evidence of unlawful proceeds.
