- On Monday, Judge Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja set November 19 for judgment in a suit challenging former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello's nomination as the All Progressives Congress candidate for Kogi Central.
- Senatorial aspirant Momoh Yusuf Obaro initiated the legal challenge, alleging he was the rightful winner of the May 18 primary election. Obaro claims Bello voluntarily withdrew from the contest, a point Bello and the APC vehemently deny.
- The party declared Bello the winner with 72,399 votes, while Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke received 319 and Obaro polled 188. Although an internal document initially listed Bello as "not cleared," the party later included him among eligible aspirants.
- Lawyers for the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission , and Bello urged the court to dismiss the suit during Monday's session. Obaro's legal team maintained their request for the court to declare him the validly nominated candidate.
- Bello continues to face separate criminal proceedings by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission involving alleged financial misconduct. Despite these legal challenges regarding his tenure as governor, he remains the APC's nominee for the senatorial seat.
