Court slashes $50M judgment against Infowars’ Alex Jones over falsely calling school shooting a hoax
A Texas court reduced the $50 million judgment against Alex Jones to $1.5 million for falsely claiming the 2012 school shooting was a hoax.
The ruling does not affect a separate $1.4 billion judgment against Jones in Connecticut but represents a legal win after he and Free Speech Systems were found liable for the false claims.
The Texas Third Court of Appeals decided that Sandy Hook parents Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis failed to prove harassment caused by Jones' claims surpassed the state $750,000 damage cap.
Jones and his company have filed for bankruptcy, and related legal proceedings are ongoing.
