Court Issues Arrest Warrant Against TMC MP Mahua Moitra for Not Honouring Summons in Hate Speech Case
On Wednesday, the Krishnanagar Court issued an arrest warrant for Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for allegedly failing to honour summons in a hate speech case.
The case stems from alleged controversial remarks Moitra made regarding the Indian Army, with the complaint filed under sections 353 for hate speech, 79 for insulting modesty, and 299 for outraging religious feelings.
Noting Moitra's repeated failure to appear despite court orders, the judge cited her "lackadaisical approach" and recorded that her lawyer indicated she has "No respect for the court of law."
The court directed that an execution report of the arrest warrant be submitted by August 28; the Supreme Court earlier this month declined to intervene in Moitra's legal challenge.
While the Calcutta High Court granted interim protection from coercive action until October 5, the court rejected her lawyer's apprehension that Moitra might face heckling if she appeared in person.
