Negeri Sembilan State Assembly to Be Dissolved on Jun 5; Polls to Be Held Within 60 Days
Political instability after 14 assemblymen withdrew support has pushed Pakatan leaders to back dissolution as the best way to resolve the impasse.
On Friday, Negeri Sembilan state ruler Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir consented to dissolve the legislative assembly, clearing the path for snap polls as confirmed by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Political instability began in late April when 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen from Umno withdrew support for Aminuddin's administration, prompting Pakatan leaders to identify dissolution as the most viable option.
Parties are now preparing to contest all 36 seats, following the Aug 12, 2023 polls where Pakatan won 17 seats and Barisan Nasional 14.
Tentative seat allocations for the election have been agreed upon by Pakatan Harapan leaders, involving PKR, the Democratic Action Party, and Amanah dividing the 36-member assembly seats.
Aminuddin confirmed that seat allocations will be officially finalized next week, as senior leaders including Democratic Action Party's Anthony Loke and Amanah's Ibrahim Abd Rahman work to finalize the strategy.
