Copper to hit $12,000 this year, say major trading groups

Threat of US tariffs and growing global demand seen as likely to support prices

2025 has become a month more than positive for copper as it already accumulates an increase of more than 11%.

The price of copper rose on Tuesday to its highest level in almost six months, as operators maintained speculative purchases in the face of US tariff expectations and the dollar weakened after US data.The three-month reference copper in the London Metal Exchange (LME) skyrocketed 1.5% to $10.105 a metric ton, having reached the highest level from September 30 to $10.130 after winning 1% on Monday.

Copper futures on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange rose to a record high today on concerns about potential import tariffs in the United States.
