Danish professor Niels Thygesen has been named European of the Year 2026. The European Movement writes in a press release. 91-year-old Niels Thygesen helped lay the foundation for the Euro in 1989, and in 2016 he became the EU's first fiscal watchdog. Niels Thygesen has also been an advisor to the International Monetary Fund.
