Crews are mopping up hot spots after the blaze burned 1,667 acres and displaced about 30 residents, officials said.
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Flanders Fire reached 60% containment in Crow Wing County, allowing officials to lift all evacuation orders at noon. The wildfire has burned about 1,666 acres since Saturday, May 16.
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources investigators identified the fire's origin near the north shore of Flanders Lake in Mission Township. Authorities have identified "people of interest" in connection with the blaze.
Incident Commander Jeb Backe of the Minnesota Incident Command System reported "excellent progress" in establishing control lines with tracked vehicles and drones. Firefighters began demobilizing equipment as containment continues to improve.
With County Highway 11 reopening on Monday, residents returned to their properties while mop-up operations continued. Crow Wing County declared a local emergency to secure funding and assistance for impacted residents and businesses.
DNR Conservation Officer Jordan Anderson urges residents with trail or ring camera footage from Flanders Lake to contact authorities at 218-639-0782. Officials warn the scene remains active despite containment progress.
