Locals protested the transfer of five accused in singer Zubeen Garg's death to a new district jail, leading to a stone-pelting attack on their convoy, police said.
- On Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, a convoy carrying five people arrested in connection with late singer Zubeen Garg's death was pelted with stones as it entered Baksa District Jail gates.
- The court remanded the five to judicial custody after 14 days of police custody and Assam government officials decided to lodge them in the newly opened Baksa District Jail.
- Authorities later said police personnel and journalists were injured as security forces fired tear gas and blank shots; three vehicles, including two police vehicles, were torched and District Commissioner Gautam Das issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 banning gatherings within 500 metres of the jail.
- So far, seven people have been arrested and a 10-member Special Investigation Team has questioned at least seven Singapore-based expatriate Assamese; two co-musicians will remain in police custody until October 17.
- Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said a section tried to destabilise Assam by provoking fans and met Alice Cheng, Acting High Commissioner of Singapore, in New Delhi to seek cooperation.
