Censorship by the Constitutional Council of the extension of administrative detention from 90 days to 210 days of foreigners considered dangerous is a disavowal for the Minister of the Interior, who had defended this measure from the moment he took office in September 2024.
Rejected by the institution, the Minister of the Interior announced this Friday, 8 August, that he would present "at the earliest opportunity" before Parliament a "modified text" in order to extend the length of detention of suspected dangerous foreigners.
On Thursday, August 7, the Constitutional Council censored the extension of the period of detention of certain foreigners in administrative detention centres. On Friday, Bruno Retailleau took note of the decision and affirmed that he would shortly be presenting a "modified text" to Parliament.
Defended by the Minister of the Interior, the law provided, inter alia, for the extension of the period of detention of foreigners convicted of certain acts in administrative detention from 90 to 210 days.
The Minister of the Interior regrets the decision of the Constitutional Council, which has censored the possibility of extending to seven months the placement of the most dangerous foreigners in CRA. And announces preparing a "modified text" which he will present "at the earliest before Parliament".
