Connecticut Primary Election 2026: Key Races, What's on the Ballot
Lamont faces a primary challenge as voters choose nominees for governor, Congress and all 187 legislative seats.
On Tuesday, Connecticut voters head to the polls to decide Democratic and Republican primary races for governor, U.S. Congress, and state legislative seats, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Incumbent Governor Ned Lamont faces state Representative Josh Elliott for the Democratic nomination, marking the first gubernatorial primary challenge since 1978. Lamont invested $9.5 million in personal funds while Elliott received $3.8 million in public funding.
In the 1st Congressional District, 14-term incumbent Representative John Larson faces his first primary challenge since 1998, with Luke Bronin, Ruth Fortune, and Jillian Gilchrest competing for the nomination. The winner advances to face Republican Ryan Fazio in November.
According to the Secretary of the State's office, Democrats cast just under 40,000 early votes through Friday, with West Hartford and Hamden recording the highest turnout across the state. Early voting data signals strong Democratic participation ahead of Tuesday's primary.
Winners of today's contested nominations advance to the November 3 general election; state law requires voters to be registered with a party to participate in primaries, and anyone in line at 8 p.m. retains voting eligibility.
