Complainant recounts alleged attack in Kelowna sexual assault trial

- J.D. met Hildebrand Acosta at a downtown Kelowna bar on Nov. 19, 2021. The group consumed alcohol and cocaine before returning to her apartment to continue partying early the next morning.
- Recalling the alleged assault, J.D. testified "my body instantly froze" while waking to someone behind her. She stated the person penetrated her for about 15 minutes, noting she pretended to sleep because she felt it "wasn't safe."
- This marks the third start to the sexual assault trial. Previous attempts failed due to a 2024 mistrial and the accused failing to appear for scheduled court dates in 2025 before Justice Richard Hewson.
