Commissioners accept donation of Ten Commandments monument for new Smith County Courthouse

Taxpayers won’t pay for the monument or its installation. Smith County Judge Neal Franklin says the Ten Commandments are being viewed as a piece of American history.

SMITH COUNTY – The Ten Commandments will soon be a new monument outside the recently constructed Smith County Courthouse. The plan to accept the donation on Tuesday morning was approved by the commissioners. The monument will be placed in front of the courthouse, making it the fourth county in Texas to do so.
