Colts Receiver Alec Pierce Could Miss the Start of Training Camp After Offseason Ankle Surgery
Doctors expect Alec Pierce’s left ankle to need 4 to 6 months to heal after surgery, which could delay his return into training camp.
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce underwent surgery on his left ankle in late March after a platelet-rich plasma injection failed to resolve the injury, facing a four-to-six-month recovery timeline.
Pierce played through a nagging ankle injury throughout the 2025 season, but a January platelet-rich plasma injection failed to provide relief, prompting him to pursue surgery as "the smartest play for the long term."
Despite the persistent ailment, Pierce produced career-best numbers in 2025, recording 47 receptions for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns while leading the league with 21.3 yards per catch.
Focusing on mental repetitions during mandatory minicamp this week, Pierce stands behind quarterbacks during drills to understand their reads and thought processes, saying "that allows me to understand more of what's going through their minds."
If recovery extends beyond four months, Pierce may miss the start of training camp, potentially impacting his availability for the season opener at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Ravens next month.
