- On July 3, CPW’s Aquatic Animal Health Lab confirmed three zebra mussel veligers in Colorado River samples near Glenwood Springs and Silt.
- Under CPW’s criteria, increased sampling led to positive detections in the Colorado River, as the agency requires two separate confirmations for positive status.
- CPW staff discovered on July 8, samples from Mack Mesa Lake indicated veligers, making it positive for zebra mussels.
- All water users are reminded to send photos of suspected zebra mussels to Invasive.Species@state.co.us for identification, and encouraged to follow cleaning protocols.
- Understanding the current extent of zebra mussels in western Colorado is a critical step in stopping their spread, while Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff evaluates future management options, Robert Walters said.
