Colombia paid a tribute this Wednesday to Totó la Momposina marked by the music, dance and traditional sounds that accompanied the singer’s artistic life. The ceremony, held at the National Capitol, was far from a traditional solemn act and became a celebration of the cultural legacy of one of the most representative figures of Colombian music.
The Congress of the Republic pays tribute to Totó la Momposina’s life and work in the Elliptical Hall of the National Capitol, where her body rests in a fiery chamber. The Ministry of Cultures recognizes her as “eternal teacher” for taking cumbia, mapalé and joint to stages around the world.
