Collie Remarkably Survives Plunging 100-Feet Down Cliff
Whisp the Collie was rescued by HM Coastguard after slipping down a 100-foot cliff onto a rocky ledge inaccessible by land or sea, reunited uninjured after a three-hour operation.
- On Nov. 13, HM Coastguard rescued Whisp, a two-year-old collie, after he fell nearly 100 feet to a rocky ledge in Heylor on the Northmavine peninsula, Shetland.
- Because the ledge was inaccessible from the sea, Whisp landed on a rocky ledge that made access from the seaward side impossible and his owner could not reach him safely, HM Coastguard- Orkney & Shetland said.
- The operation began around 11:10 a.m., with rescuers setting up rope equipment and a rope technician using a high-angle rigging system to retrieve Whisp, concluding about 2 p.m.
- Thankfully a happy ending for Whisp, who was returned safe and well to Whisp's owner and described as "remarkably unscathed" with photos taken shortly after the rescue.
- HM Coastguard noted on social media that photos show Whisp sitting among over a dozen rescue team members, demonstrating local services’ technical capability, according to the Coast Guard.
