Okanagan Protesters Spread Awareness of Campaign to Recall MLA Tara Armstrong
A small group is promoting the effort before Elections BC approves a petition that would need about 20,000 signatures in 60 days.
- On Friday, Aug. 14, about half a dozen Coldstream residents gathered at the corner of Kalamalka Lake Road and Westkal Road, bearing signs to launch a public awareness campaign aimed at recalling Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream MLA Tara Armstrong.
- Organizer Christine McNair cited a 'lack of representation,' alleging Armstrong ignored campaign promises on affordable housing and health care while tabling 14 bills unrelated to her riding.
- Once Elections BC approves the petition, organizers have 60 days to collect signatures from at least 40 per cent of eligible voters, totaling about 20,000 signatures required for success.
- McNair acknowledged slim chances of success; few recall efforts have historically succeeded, and a petition to recall Vancouver-Quilchena MLA Dallas Brodie failed last month.
- The group is currently submitting extensive paperwork to Elections BC while actively seeking volunteers to help canvass once the formal petition process officially begins.
