Colchester fire at Middlewick Ranges battled by 50 firefighters

Fire crews used 14 appliances to contain the blaze, and teams kept checking the site for hotspots after it was fully surrounded.

  • On Friday, July 31, the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service tackled a blaze at shuttered retail units beside the Apollo bingo complex on Brighton Road in Rhyl, using ladders and hoses to contain the fire.
  • The Art Deco building, formerly the Odeon Cinema, first opened on October 30, 1937, seating more than 1,400 people. Majestic Bingo modernized the complex ten years ago in 1996, and the Real Fun Group currently owns the site.
  • North Wales Fire and Rescue Service dispatched "several appliances" to the Denbighshire resort's High Street to manage the incident. Fire crews later cleared debris from the blackened unit onto the pavement.
  • Local residents expressed concern online, with one woman calling the site a "beautiful building," while onlookers praised firefighters for preventing the structure from ablaze. Bystanders noted police officers and ambulances were at the scene.
  • The bingo hall currently opens seven days a week, closing at midnight on Fridays and weekends, allowing operations to continue despite the fire damage to adjacent retail units.
