Warning to UK Coffee Drinkers as Prices Won't Fall for at Least Two Years
Italian coffee giant Lavazza warned Wednesday that UK coffee prices will likely remain high for at least two years, driven by climate change and geopolitical instability causing "exceptional volatility" in global markets.
Heavy rains in Brazil have disrupted fieldwork and delayed harvests, creating what Lavazza chairman Giuseppe Lavazza called "the perfect environment for speculators to step in to move the price to the record levels we've seen."
Flagship cafe prices have increased, with a flat white in London now costing £6.50 to drink in, up from £5.50, while a 1kg bag of Qualita Rossa beans retails for around £22.50.
Revenue rose 13% to £124.9 million in 2025, as the company reported "strong growth"; Giuseppe Lavazza noted that UK shoppers have shown "high resilience" to rising prices.
The firm will launch Tabli, a new home coffee system, in September; Giuseppe Lavazza described it as "the best Lavazza has designed in history" to address packaging sustainability concerns.
