Interview about government formation: "Only partial similarities"

Significantly worse polls already shortly after the election - according to the party researcher Uwe Jun, the Union is in a tricky situation before taking over the government. Can it fulfill central promises at all?

The coalition negotiations between the Union and SPD will continue in the Willy Brandt House. After US President Donald Trump's tariff announcement, the economy will probably play an even bigger role, reports reporter Achim Unser.

Simplifying the bureaucracy, reducing it, making it disappear - that's what every party wants. For black and red, this becomes vital to the survival of the large infrastructure package. But how? The draft coalition agreement shows who is making pressure and who is rather slowing down.

Despite the demonstrative harmony between the party leaders, the devil is in the details in the coalition negotiations. The mood is sometimes very tense, from the announced "policy turnaround" there should be little left.

Even on the subject of finance, SPD, CDU and CSU are getting closer to the coalition negotiations. But: "There is still a lot to be done," says Saskia Esken. Business associations are now putting pressure on them.

Progress, but not a quick breakthrough: Union and SPD are confident, but may not yet agree on a coalition agreement this week.
