Coal production in domestic lignite quarries is on the rise this year despite a future planned downturn. A total of 13.04 million tonnes of lignite were mined in the first half of the year, which was almost four per cent up year-on-year. On the contrary, the mining of hard coal ended when the last mine in Karvinsk closed at the beginning of February. This is according to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO).
