Morocco Coach Says Achraf Hakimi ‘Especially Relaxed’ Despite Rape Trial
Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi praised Achraf Hakimi's play after a 1-0 win as French prosecutors confirmed he will face rape trial.
On Friday, June 19, French prosecutors confirmed that Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain right back Achraf Hakimi will stand trial for rape after he lost an appeal to dismiss the case.
Morocco manager Mohamed Ouahbi praised Hakimi's performance following Friday's 1-0 World Cup win over Scotland, calling him 'extraordinary' and 'relaxed' during the match.
In a social media statement, Hakimi wrote, 'I've been waiting for this trial since day one,' expressing readiness to finally speak in his defense.
Playing the full 90 minutes, the captain did not address the media after the match, while goalscorer Ismael Saibari declined to answer questions about Hakimi.
Morocco closes the group stage against Haiti at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Atlanta, with the team representing 44 million Moroccans following the World Cup.
