CNM and RRPS Break Ground on Transportation Technology Center
- On May 23, 2025, Central New Mexico Community College initiated construction of the Transportation Technology Center at RioTECH in Rio Rancho.
- This event followed CNM's partnership with Rio Rancho Public Schools, formed to offer high school students convenient access to skilled trades through RioTECH, which opened in April 2025.
- The nearly 43,800-square-foot center will house labs that replicate professional repair shops, including an Electric Vehicle Lab with storage for 85 vehicles, to support hands-on learning and workforce preparation.
- CNM President Tracy Hartzler said the groundbreaking represents a 'momentous step forward' that broadens opportunities with state-of-the-art labs offering internship possibilities and pathways to credentials and careers.
- The center is planned to begin operations in late 2026, with the goal of expanding trade program offerings, boosting graduation rates by half, and meeting local workforce demands through a combination of technical skill development and academic courses.
