CMHC reports January housing starts down 15 per cent from December
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation cites economic uncertainty and lower immigration as factors while actual starts rose 1% in population centres over 10,000, with 16,088 units in January.

- CMHC deputy chief economist Tania Bourassa-Ochoa warned that while actual starts in January were flat, the six-month trend has decreased for the fourth consecutive month, and CMHC said new construction will trend lower due to costs and weaker demand.
