Render Raises $100 Million Series C Extension at $1.5 Billion Valuation to Build the Cloud for AI-Native Software

Render plans to use $100 million funding to hire engineers, build features, and test servers, supporting over 4.5 million developers with AI-native cloud infrastructure.

  • On Tuesday, Render, a San Francisco startup, raised $100 million at a $1.5 billion valuation to expand its cloud infrastructure for AI-native software.
  • Facing intensified competition since ChatGPT in 2022, demand from AI labs and developers has grown as OpenAI, which uses Render, committed more than $600 billion to major cloud providers in recent months.
  • Anurag Goel, co-founder and CEO, noted that its revenue growth exceeds 100% and more than 4.5 million developers use its tools, while Render runs on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform and recently tested its own servers.
  • With the new capital, Render will hire additional technical staff to build product features, aiming to reduce costs and improve efficiency for customers including Shortcut, which moved from rival Vercel.
  • But greater reliance on in-house servers brings capacity risks as Render, founded 2018 with about 100 employees, reports revenue growth well above 100%.
